Payconiq by Bancontact
Belgium's national card and QR payment scheme
Bancontact Payconiq Company, renamed Bancontact Company in March 2026, operates Bancontact, Belgium's domestic debit scheme, and the Payconiq by Bancontact mobile app for QR-code and in-app payments. Practically every Belgian merchant accepts Bancontact in store, and the QR option covers markets, cafés and invoice payments without extra hardware. The Brussels company is owned by Belgium's major banks and is aligning with the European Payments Initiative's Wero wallet.
Our reading. Best for any merchant selling in Belgium, where Bancontact and Payconiq acceptance is effectively a requirement.
