Adyen
Unified commerce payments for chains and enterprises
Adyen is a single-platform acquirer and processor covering online, in-app and in-store payments with its own Android terminals, plus embedded finance (Capital, Accounts, Issuing). It targets mid-sized to large merchants and restaurant or retail chains that want one contract and one data set across countries. The company was founded in Amsterdam in 2006 and listed in 2018.
Our reading. Best for restaurant and retail chains operating in several countries that have technical resources and want one acquirer for online and in-person payments; too heavy for a single shop.
Strengths
- One platform for online and in-person payments across many countries
- Transparent Interchange++ pricing
- Bank licences in the EU and strong uptime record
Limits
- Minimum invoice makes it unsuitable for very small merchants
- Integration requires technical resources or a partner POS
Founded 2006, listed on Euronext since 2018, one of the largest payment processors globally
Founded by Pieter van der Does and Arnout Schuijff; IPO June 2018; customers include eBay, Temu and many restaurant chains; more than 4,300 employees
