ZappTax
Tax-free shopping for non-EU tourists with no forms or contract for the shop
ZappTax is an authorised tax-free operator in France and Belgium: a non-EU traveller photographs an invoice issued in ZappTax's name, the app generates the export form validated at customs, and the refund is paid to the traveller. Any shop can take part without software, paperwork or a contract. The company is based in Brussels with an office in Paris.
Our reading. Best for independent boutiques and small chains in France and Belgium that see non-EU tourists but never set up a tax-free scheme.
Strengths
- Nothing to install and no fee for the shop; works for a single boutique as well as a chain
- Purchases across shops are pooled, so small tickets become eligible for a refund
- Authorised operator status with French and Belgian customs; apps rated 4.6 to 4.8
Limits
- Only France and Belgium so far
- Refund speed and conversion depend on the traveller using the app, not on the shop
Launched 2018, about 200,000 travellers served, named fastest-growing small business in Brussels (Trends Gazelles 2025); still a small team.
Trends Gazelles 2025 Ambassador for Brussels; reports 200,000+ travellers served and tens of millions of euros refunded.
